Why We Worship The Way We Do

Why We Worship The Way We Do

We Stand When We Sing

And the Levites…of the children of Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high. (II Chronicles 20:19)

We Clap Our Hands

O clap your hands all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of Triumph. (Psalms 47:1)

We Lift Our Hands

Thus I will bless Thee while I live; I will lift my hands unto Thy name. (Psalms 63:4)

Lift up your hands in the Sanctuary and bless the Lord. (Psalms 134:2)

I would therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands without wrath or doubting. (I Timothy 2:8)

We Have Audible Praise Unto God

Bless the Lord; O my soul and all that is within me bless His holy name. (Psalms 103:1)

I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. (Psalms 34:1)

And when they heard this they lifted their voices to God… (Acts 4:24)

We Speak In Tongues

And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them, and they were filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:3-4)

For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. (Acts 10:45)

We Interpret The Tongues

If any speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course, and let one interpret. (I Cor. 14:27)

Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. (I Cor. 14:29)

For ye may all prophesy one by one that all may learn, and all may be comforted. (I Cor. 14:31)

We Use Musical Instruments

As a Part of the Worship Services

Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet: Praise Him with the psaltery and harp. Praise Him with the timbrel and dance. Praise Him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise Him upon the loud cymbals: Praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals. (Psalms 150: 3-5)

And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps. (Revelation 14:2)

We Anoint With Oil

Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. (James 5:14-15)

And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them. (Mark 6:13)

We Emphasize Evangelism

And the Lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. (Luke 14:23)

We Have This Type Of Worship

But the hour cometh and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. (John 4:23-24)

For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the Spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus and have no confidence in the flesh. (Phil. 3:3)

We Sing Choruses As Well As Hymns

And be not drunk with wine, wherein excess; but be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:18-19)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Colossians 3:16)

We Emphasize Holiness

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14)
